Growing Up in America: My Early Education

One consequence of growing up in a female dominated household was to early on make me acutely aware of the status of women in society... my mom put together almost single-handedly a monthly magazine for the employees of a large northern Ohio electrical utilities company ...including the layout and her monthly column where she`d interview employees and their families with illustrating pictures...
.....nice warm, human interest kinda stuff...she had her own male photographer too, who`d travel around northern Ohio with her, taking the pics while she`d interview&talk with the people...the family joke was that her photographer made more $`s than she did...My mom always remained the assistant editor too, passed over several times for the editor`s job, which paid mucho more $`s, always given it seemed to an inexperienced man who had "pull"...never any bitterness tho, more like an ironic, almost humorous acceptance....my mom had been an artist before she had me and before economic necessity swept her into the mainstream, but she was always proud that she had had a job throughout the Depression years...........
